WHAT IS OUR WORSHIP SERVICE LIKE?
The Nicoma
Park church of Christ
is a traditional worshipping
congregation.
We assemble every Lords Day (every
Sunday)
Hebrews
10:25
Let us not give up meeting
together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one
another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching.
There is typically lots of visiting, greetings,
and well wishing before the service begins.
Order is called by a song.
Announcements are important information
about the congregation and prayer requests are given including welcoming
visitors
Singing
a cappella exclusively
the only instruments used is the ones God built human voices
Ephesians 5:19 20: Speak to one another with psalms, hymns and spiritual songs. Sing and
make music in your heart to the Lord, always giving thanks to God the
Father for everything, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Colossians 3:16:
Let the word of Christ
dwell in you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all
wisdom, and as you sing psalms, hymns and spiritual songs with gratitude
in your hearts to God.
A careful reading of these verses shows
The purpose is to praise God
Only psalms, hymns, and songs that are
spiritual are appropriate there are many good songs in the world
but not all of them are appropriate to praise God
It is an act required of every member
nothing is said about singing good or in tune or four part harmony
The melody is to be made in the
worshippers heart not in some instrument
This is not an effort in entertaining the
audience
The focus is on God and for God
Most, if not all, the members of the
Nicoma Park Church of Christ enjoy instrumental music, songs with
instrumental music, and concerts but everything in its place
The pattern of the church for the first
200 years was
a cappella and the command to sing is individual
