BELIEFS
The Bible is the inspired word of God
God inspired [guided] men to write the
Bible.
The words and the meaning are God’s.
The Bible is the complete word of God.
The Bible is the only way we can know God
and know how we should live
and
what we must do to be saved from the
coming judgment of the world.
It is important to know how to be in a right relationship
with God.
“All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking,
correcting and training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be
thoroughly equipped for every good work.” (2 Timothy 3:16-17)
The Bible claims to be the inspired word
of God. This is either the truth or a lie,
it can not be both
If you believe that it is the truth then you have a responsibility to yourself and
to God to learn what it says and to follow those instructions to
transform your life into a pattern of righteousness.
If you don’t believe it,
We urge you to rethink your position—the
results are eternal.
We urge you to study for awhile anyway.
Study is always most difficult at first.
But it is like a good soup.
It will take a little simmering to taste
good.
Why not send us an e-mail telling us what you believe and why.
Nicoma Park Church of Christ
The Nicoma Park Church of Christ is
committed to studying the Bible.
It
gives us direction and purpose in life.
It gives us strength to overcome
temptation.
It gives us guidance on everyday living
on how to treat each other and how to treat you.
It gives us hope and knowledge to worship
God as He desires, not as we imagine or want to.
2 Timothy
2:15 is the reason we use the Bible as
our only creed.

What
about this Deity?
¨
We don’t claim to understand God--we just
accept what the Bible tells us
§
Logically,
can anyone with our limited knowledge and experience understand a being
capable of designing, creating, and sustaining the universe?
¨
The Bible tells us that God has revealed
Himself in different ways through the history of man
(Hebrews 1:1-2)
§
But in our day, He uses the Bible
·
So that all mankind can know Him in the
same way
·
Know Him without the deceptions and lies
that many may practice
¨
It follows that when accepting “that God
exists”, one is faced with the responsibilities of
§
Learning
“what does God want of me?”
§
And “obeying”
whatever that is.
¨
The nature and will of God are revealed
§
In the Bible
§
And are also witnessed by the evidence of
design, pattern, and order that is in all creation.

All Men Sin [How does that impact you?]
¨
“…all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God…” (Romans
3:23)
¨
“…the wages of sin is death…” (Romans
6:23)
¨
“If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth in
not in us.” (1 John 1:8)
¨
“For we will all stand before God’s judgment seat.” (Romans
14:10)
¨
“For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, that each
one may receive what is due him for the things done while in the body,
whether good or bad.” (2 Corinthians
5:10)
¨
Sin is a process.
§
A process is a series of related acts
that lead to an end result
§
The sin process begins with desire
§
Progresses to an evil desire
§
Progresses onward to sin
§
Repeats until one’s heart is so hard he
can not repent.
THE
PROCESS: DESIRE
à
SIN
à
DEATH
¨
James 1:14-15 states it as
“…each one is tempted when, by
his own desire, he is dragged away and enticed.
Then, after desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin,
when it is full-grown, gives birth to death.”
¨
The process is also noted in Psalm 7:14:
“He who is pregnant with
evil and conceives trouble gives birth to disillusionment.”
¨
And when our own actions lead to grievous
affliction, we blame God.
¨
Solomon expresses much better in Proverbs
19:3:
“A man’s own folly ruins his
life, yet his heart rages against the Lord.”
¨
All sins are BIG!!
·
Sin is not inherited
¨
We do not believe children are born with
sin
¨
Jesus made the condition of children very
plain in Matthew 18:3: “And
he said: ‘I tell you the truth, unless you change and become like little
children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven.”
¨
Ezekiel 18:20:
“The soul who sins is the
one who will die. The son
will not share the guilt of the father, nor will the father share the
guilt of the son.”
¨
Romans 14:12:
“So then, each of us will
give an account of himself to God.”
·
Hell is eternal
¨
“…the eternal fire” [Matthew 25:41]
¨
“…were the fire never goes out” [Mark 9:43]
¨
“…blackest darkness has been reserved forever.” [Jude 13]
¨
“…tormented day and night forever and ever.” [Revelation 20:10]
·
Salvation is also a process
¨
The first part of this process has to do
with things for which God is responsible.
§
Before the universe was created, God knew
man would fall and developed a plan to save man.
2
Timothy 1:9
§
God knew when He implemented the covenant
with Abraham that He would replace it with a new covenant
Titus 1:2
§
Jesus fulfilled all the requirements of
the Law and all the requirements of the sacrificial “perfect lamb”
Matthew 5:17,
1 Peter 1:19,
Hebrews 2:10-11
§
Jesus’ love gives us salvation through
·
Mercy [Titus
3:5]
·
Grace [Ephesians
2:8]
·
The Gospel [1
Corinthians 15:2]
·
His blood [Romans
5:8-9]
¨
The second part of this process has to do
with the things for which man is responsible.
§
Man must accept the gift of salvation on
God’s terms, not on man’s terms.
§
Man must be obedient to God’s plan.
§
Man must enter by the right “gate” [John
10:1, 9, 14]
·
Love is essential
¨
Without love we are nothing.
[1
Corinthians 13:1-3]
¨
The greatest commandment in the law:
“Love the Lord your God
with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.”
[Matthew 22:37]
¨
The second is:
“Love your neighbor as
yourself.” [Matthew 22:39]
¨
“We love because he first loved us.
If anyone says, ‘I love God,’ yet hates his brother, he is a
liar. For anyone who does
not love his brother, whom he has seen, cannot love God, whom he has not
seen. And he has given us
this command: Whoever loves
God must also love his brother.” [1 John 4: 19-21]
¨
Christians are also commanded to love
their enemies [Matthew
5: 43-48]
¨
1 Corinthians 13:4-13
¨
Do you think the love of men is growing
cold today?
Matthew 24: 10-14
§
What does that mean to you about the end?
·
Faithfulness
is a natural result
¨
In reference to the first century
Christians, Acts 2:42 tells us
“They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to the
fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer.”
¨
1 Corinthians 15:58:
“Therefore, my dear
brothers, stand firm. Let
nothing move you. Always
give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that
your labor in the Lord is not in vain.”
¨
Hebrews 10:25:
“Let us not give up
meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us
encourage one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching.”
¨
1 Timothy 1:8-10
“So do not be ashamed to testify
about our Lord, or ashamed of me his prisoner.
But join with me in suffering for the gospel, by the power of
God, who has saved us and called us to a holy life—not because of
anything we have done but because of his own purpose and grace.
This grace was given us in Christ Jesus before the beginning of
time, but it has now been revealed through the appearing of our Savior,
Christ Jesus, who has destroyed death and has brought life and
immortality to light through the gospel.”
¨
Colossians 3:12-14
“Therefore, as God’s chosen
people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion,
kindness, humility, gentleness and patience.
Bear with each other and forgive whatever grievances you may have
against one another.
Forgive as the Lord forgave you.
And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all
together in perfect unity.”
¨
1 Timothy 4:16:
“Watch your life and
doctrine closely. Persevere
in them, because if you do, you will save both yourself and your
hearers.”
·
The Judge of the Universe is Coming Soon
¨
2 Peter 3:10:
“But the day of the Lord will
come like a thief. The
heavens will disappear with a roar; the elements will be destroyed by
fire, and the earth and everything in it will be laid bare.”
¨
Hebrews 10:31:
“It is a dreadful thing to fall
into the hands of the living God.”
